System Requirements
Blackout is a full-fledged software application and, as such, requires appropriate hardware to function optimally.
Device Compatibility:
Blackout is exclusively available for iPads running iPadOS. For the best user experience, we recommend using the most recent iPad model you can acquire. Blackout is designed for screens 10.2 inches and larger.
TIP
Jeff personally tests Blackout on the following models to ensure performance and compatibility:
- iPad Air (4th Generation): 10.9-inch, A14 Bionic chip (2020)
- iPad Pro (7th Generation): 13-inch, M4 Silicon chip (2024)
Connectivity Options
While exploring Blackout, you might find yourself in need of making hardwire connections to enhance your control setup. It's important to note that it's often easier and cheaper to pick up a USB-C hub than a Lightning dongle for these connections. USB-C hubs generally offer more ports and better performance, allowing you to connect directly to your lighting network via Ethernet and to USB MIDI controllers.
TIP
Jeff personally owns several of these USB C Hubs (paid affiliate link). Always carry backups!
Not Recommended:
While Blackout can be used on an iPad Mini, it is not optimized for screens smaller than 10.2 inches.
